The Arizona Department of Transportation recently completed a safety study on State Route 89 between mileposts 276 and 278 in the community of Yarnell. The road safety assessment (RSA) identified potential safety issues related to roadway traffic and evaluated possible ways to eliminate or mitigate safety concerns for both drivers and pedestrians.

The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to prepare for lane restrictions on State Route 89 between the communities of Wilholt and Yarnell from Monday, July 17, to Thursday, Aug. 17, for road maintenance work.
Drivers should allow for extra travel time while the following daytime restrictions are in place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and 6 a.m. to noon on Fridays:
SR 89 will be reduced to one lane only with alternating north- and southbound travel between Young Lane and Walden Boulevard (mileposts 278-295).
A 12-foot vehicle width restriction will be in effect and the speed limit reduced in the work zone.
Drivers should be prepared to come to a complete stop when approaching and traveling through the work zone.
Onsite flaggers and law enforcement officers will direct drivers through the work zone.
Road crews will work on 3- to 5-mile segments at a time.
SR 89 will be reduced to one lane in each direction between mileposts 276 and 278 in Yarnell. NOTE: The work in Yarnell will be done after crews complete road maintenance between mileposts 278-295.
On-street parking will not be permitted from July 24 – Aug. 7 while road work is underway in Yarnell. (Dates subject to changes.)
The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.
Some driveways along SR 89 may be inaccessible for about 30-60 minutes while the road work is underway.
The restrictions are needed so crews can remove the top portion of the pavement and apply a pavement surface treatment on the roadway.
